NOTE: To join the Book Club is FREE. The recordings are stored in the Dolphin Society. To register for this year's meetings, scroll down. The purpose of The Dolphin Society Book Club is to hone our craft as historians, to read, think about and discuss history, and, for those who need a quick overview of history, to use our recordings as succinct history lessons. At the beginning of each talk, John De Gree will present a 20 to 30-minute powerpoint explaining the key historical events, people, and ideas of the month’s readings. After this, John turns off the recording. Then, John leads attendees in Socratic discussions on the history they have read. Typically, the Book Club is attended by teachers of history and home school moms (and sometimes, Dads!) Didn’t have time to read everything for that month? That’s fine! Come along for the lesson and discussion, anyways! And, John records only HIS portion of the talk. Before Dolphin Members converse, he shuts off the recording, so members can freely discuss without any worry of being recorded.
2025/26 Book Club: Modern American History, The Story of Liberty; Reconstruction through the Reagan Revolution, by John De Gree ISBN: 9798289932938 You can purchase it here. My newest book traces the story of liberty as it ebbs and flows from the late 1800s, through the Industrial Revolution, the advent of Progressivism, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression, The Beginning of the Welfare Society and the New Deal, World War II, The Cold War, Korean War, The Fabulous Fifties, The Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, The Vietnam War, The Great Society, The Disastrous 1960s and 1970s, The Rise of the New Left, and the Reagan Revolution. I'm very excited about this book as it shows the effects of taxation, highlights the battle against Soviet Communism, and ends with the triumph of Ronald Reagan and the rebirth of conservatism in American society. Remarkably, this is one of a very few books on modern American history with a "natural rights" or limited government, pro-Western civilization perspective. You can purchase this on this website here.
