Our courses teach the skills of the historian, challenge students to research and analyze various perspectives, and respectfully and honestly guide students in thoughtful and honest analysis, Socratic discussion, and interpretation of the past. How The Online Classes Work
First, students read a pre-determined set of history readings from primary and secondary sources (see below).
Note: For Elementary School students, all readings will take place during class.
Using free ZOOM technology, students log in for the 50 minute weekly class. ZOOM allows students to participate as much as they like by "raising hands" and joining the conversation via telephone or VOIP, answering in-class surveys and using a live chat box. There are no mandatory after-class assignments, no tests and no papers. These classes are designed to encourage a love of history by providing lively discussions of open-ended history questions in a low-pressure environment. Written verification of attendance and participation is available for transcript purposes. Additionally, each student receives access to a downloadable, high quality audio recording of each class that remains available for the entire year.
How Do I Register?
Enroll in the online course and purchase the online materials through the appropriate links. Each Class costs $15 and meets 15 times per semester, 30 times per year ($375 per year). Enrollment also entitles the student to permanent access to high quality video recordings. Enrollment maximum is 18 students per class.

How Much Reading and Writing Per Week?
In the elementary school, all reading will take place during class. In the junior high grades, students will have between one to two hours per week of reading and preparation. There are no essay assignments in the junior high courses. For the High School Discussion-Only courses, students are expected to read about three to four hours per week, however, it is up to each student how much time he puts into the class. For those choosing the optional testing, essay writing, and assessment portion, there is an additional two to four hours of work per week, and a $300 fee. This includes essay editing, grading, and unlimited rewriting and revising of the history essays.

What is the Perspective of The Classical Historian?
The perspective of our course materials and our teachers is a traditional Western perspective, Judeo-Christian, Greco-Roman, classical approach, without promoting one particular religion. The most succinct explanation of what this means is found in the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The Classical Historian aims to teach liberty and to teach our students to be self-governing. In order to do this, students need to know the past, understand the tools to analyze historical events, and be capable of expressing these ideas in conversation and debate. Our courses are open to people of all faiths, including students from home school, private school, and public charter schools. The curriculum is used in public schools, as well as private and home schools.
