Logic and Current Events
Students will learn Current Events by reading and discussing Mr. De Gree's Current Events Blog, and students will learn Informal Fallacies from The Art of Argument.
Why Enroll Your Child in This Course?
Most American youth do not know what is happening in the world, and when they study history or read literature, they have no context to understand the new information. American youth also need to grasp how to make a good argument, how to distinguish weak from strong reasoning, and how to see how the modern media does not always present current events in a fair manner. By reading Mr. De Gree's Current Events Blog and studying informal fallacies, students will become educated in current events, how to make good arguments, and how to reject poorly made arguments.
1. The Art of Argument, an Introduction to the Informal Fallacies, by Aaron Larsen and Joelle Hodge with Chris Perrin, published by Classical Academic Press
2. Current Event Articles, by John De Gree, free at Classical Historian Current Events Blog.
This course takes place on Wednesdays, 12:00 - 12:50, PST, from September through April.
