This Go Fish game deck harnesses competitiveness for good. Instead of slogging through tedious drills, students memorize historical people, places, and events just by trying to win.
Our Go Fish games are the perfect resource for long car rides, snow days, and end-of-class time. Every deck comes with a booklet that's packed with information about each card.
Play Two Games with One Deck:
1. Go Fish
2. Collect the Cards
In the Go Fish history game, players try to get "four of a kind" by finding all four cards in each of 12 categories. By playing this game, players learn vocabulary, develop visual memory, and pick up on the chronology of historical topics. The player who captures most sets wins.
Collect the Cards is a bit more competitive. In this trivia game, the dealer reads out the three hints found on each card. After each hint, players take turns trying to guess the card. The player with the most cards at the end wins. Even if they start out with no background knowledge, students will quickly memorize the hints, learning important facts as they beat the competition.
In the booklet, you'll find a wide variety of games to teach history in a one-on-one setting, in a family with kids of different ages, and in classrooms with 40 students. It also includes historical information about each card.
The following are the categories for the Civil War Go Fish Game:
1. United Yet Divided
2. Impending Crisis,1847-1860
3. 1861: The Civil War Begins
4. 1862: Stalemate
5. Diplomacy and War
6. 1863: Turning Point
7. Homefront
8. 1864: Hard War
9. 1865: The Terrible Swift Sword
10. Presidents and Politics
11. Reconstruction, 1865-1877
12. The "New South",1877-1896

History Game Testimonial
"I am a sucker for games and I found some that I think are extraordinary...They are patterned after the vintage games of Concentration and Go Fish. I like these for the artistry, the simplicity and familiarity of the games, the historical value and perspective, and the reasonable price. Students using my series will easily identify most of Mr. De Gree's illustrated objects and places like Stonehenge, King Tut's golden mask, the Great Wall of China, and a Roman aqueduct. The "cards" for the Concentration/Memory Game are actually thick cardboard tiles, which are durable and easier for little ones to manipulate. The Go Fish card set gives you other game ideas that will be fun for all ages.
I could go on and on, because like I said, I'm a sucker for games and it's not easy to find quality ones for world history that even younger students can enjoy. I think the Classical Historian has done a great job. You may want to spice up your studies now, or save these for Christmas. Either way, I think they're great for review and the pure pleasure of having fun."
